What to Do at This Annual Kauai Festival

At its core, the Kaua’i Mokihana Festival celebrates Hawaiian culture. Taking place in September, the week-long festival is filled with things to do that shine a spotlight on the culture and traditions that have helped shape the island. The festival is put on by the Mālie Foundation, which works to organize events that preserve, educate, and promote the Hawaiian culture.

The festival starts with a Hawaiian church service at the Kapa’a First Hawaiin Church on Sunday. The service, which takes place in the church founded by Queen Deborah Kapule in 1879, has music in both Hawaiian and English.

• Hokiokio Workshop
• Hula Workshop

On Friday and Saturday, visit the Hula competition and craft fair. Watch solicits and groups from participating hālau hula presenting choice mele hula. There are cash awards for a variety of categories.
